Learning Outcomes

After successfully completing the course, you will be able to:

  • Specify strategic objectives for the maintenance department
  • Perform a system breakdown for a technical system
  • Determine effective maintenance types for each component or item
  • Develop a maintenance plan for a technical system
  • Develop a performance indicator system maintenance
  • Specify a maintenance resource structure
  • Forecast the maintenance workload from historical data
  • Perform a Pareto analysis for failures or cost of failure
  • Perform a maintenance audit on a technical system, and
  • Determine system reliability, given individual component reliability values.



The course consists of seven study themes.

  • Each study theme contains study material (slides, prescribed and optional reading, videos, and so on).
  • All themes except Theme 6 contains a self-test. Self-tests are not graded, but they prepare you for other graded assessments. For maximum benefit, try to get 70% for a self-test before moving on to the next theme.
  • You should spend about 40–50 hours reviewing the study themes.

The final result will be calculated as follows:

  • Final Test: 15%
  • Assignment 1: 15%
  • Assignment 2: 20%
  • Assignment 3: 50%
